A Conductor for Capel Choral

Stuart Longley comes to us with a wealth of musical experience.

When he was appointed, Stuart said, 'I'm delighted to have been appointed your new Musical Director and I've been asked to say a few words about myself by way of introduction.  I did warn Ian that I tend to get a bit carried away once I start reminiscing, so bear with me... So where to start?  Well, I'm a Lancastrian, having grown up in Blackpool - I'd be curious as to whether any of you spot a northern accent at any stage – my family say I've lost it since I “went South” but I find most southerners can still detect it.  I think the test comes when I say “Brass” without thinking about it too much... A quick summary of my professional CV would be: Music degree at Exeter University, 4 month Internship with the BBC Philharmonic Education Department, 9 months at a musician’s diary service in nearby Dorking, then into the 20 year teaching career, all the while developing my conducting interests alongside.

Stuart's next concert with us is our Christmas carol concert on 27 November in St Mary's Church Horsham and we are all very much looking forward to his first post COVID conducting experience with Capel Choral Society.
