New Term
Capel Choral Society is coming to the end of its summer break, and looking forward to meeting again to restart rehearsals on Monday 4th September.
The Choir’s annual contract with its Conductor, Stuart Longley, has come to an end and the Society is actively advertising for a new conductor (see vacancy details below).
The first weeks of the autumn term will therefore involve auditions of applicants for the post, but the Choir will also be singing some lighter music.
New singers in all voice parts will be most welcome from the start of the term.
Later in the term the choir will be learning music for a Christmas concert, and also having a first look at the music set for the 2024 Leith Hill Music Festival, the main work for which is Mozart’s sublime Requiem.
Capel Choral Society meets on Monday evenings from 7.45pm, in Capel Memorial Hall, from 4th September.
If you have the ambition to experience the joyous experience of choral singing, with its proven health benefits, please email our secretary, Rosemary Goddard at rosemary.goddard25@gmail.com, for more details about the Choir and how to join.
Music Conductor Vacancy
Formed in 1904, Capel Choral Society is a non-auditioning amateur choir. It has a rich heritage of musical achievement and has taken part in every single, with the exception of the war years, Leith Hill Musical Festival (LHMF) since its inception in 1905.
The Society is seeking a talented and enthusiastic, freelance Conductor with strong leadership skills. Commencement date ideally September 2023. Candidates should be available to prepare and conduct the society in the own choice competition pieces at LHMF in April and to prepare the society for the set work, Mozart’s Requiem. CCS also aims to deliver a Christmas and Summer Concert with optional instrumental accompanists. The successful candidate will also work with a professional accompanist to deliver the annual programme of music. The Society particularly welcomes applications from enthusiastic musicians, perhaps recently graduated, who are looking to gain experience working with and developing choirs.
The season runs from September to the annual LHMF in April with the option of a summer concert at the end of June. The choir rehearses weekly on Monday evenings from 7.45-9.45pm.
Capel is a small village set in the Surrey Hills, south of Dorking. The successful candidate will ideally possess a driving licence as public transport to and from Capel is not ideal.
Closing date Monday 31st July 2023.
Auditions will take place during September 2023.
