Join Us
Capel Choral Society is always glad to welcome new members of all voice types, without audition.
We rehearse on Monday evenings, from 7:30 to 9:30pm, in Capel Memorial Hall, 55 The Street, Capel, Dorking, RH5 5EL
(about five miles south of Dorking, just off the A24)
We usually spend the Spring Term rehearsing for the Leith Hill Music Festival whilst focusing on concerts of our own in the Autumn and Summer Terms.
If you would like to join, please either email our Chairman, Rosemary Goddard at rosemary.goddard25@gmail.com, or simply come along to one of our rehearsals and introduce yourself.
You don't need to have sung before and we do not require our singers to pass an audition. Anyone can join us and enjoy the experience of singing and making beautiful music.
We look forward to meeting you!
Leith Hill Music Festival
Capel Choral Society is the only remaining founding choir of the Leith Hill Musical Festival and has taken part in every LHMF since it was founded in 1905, with celebrated local composer Ralph Vaughan Williams as the festival's original Music Director, a role he maintained for over 50 years.
In more recent years popular BBC broadcaster and ex-Kings Singer Brian Kay held the post of Festival Conductor before handing over in 2016 to Jonathan Willcocks who has now retired from the role in 2024 and is now held by Neil Ferris.
On festival day, we perform at Dorking Halls in friendly competition with the other local choirs in our Division, before joining forces in the evening to perform as a massed chorus with professional soloists and a full orchestra, under the baton of Neil Ferris.
This year, (2025) our programme includes:
Dream of Gerontius by Elgar
