Leith Hill Musical Festival

2024 Competition Review

Last weekend (12th April) saw us take to the stage for the 2024 Leith Hill Music Festival. It was Anna's first festival as our conductor and with three tough pieces we all put in a great effort and came away with some very respectable scores. Our best score came from an arrangement of Keel Row by John Rutter (See video below).

We look forward to next year for more friendly competition in the morning and the opportunity to sing with mass choir and orchestra in the evening.

Many thanks to Anna, Anthea and the rest of the Committee for guiding us through this term.

Keel Row arr. John Rutter
Bring Me All Your Dreams by Christopher Harris

On festival day, we perform at Dorking Halls in friendly competition with the other local choirs in our Division, before joining forces in the evening to perform as a massed chorus with professional soloists and a full orchestra, under the baton of Jonathan Willcocks.

This year, (2024) our programme includes:

Mozart: Requiem

Vaughan Williams: Serenade to Music

Capel Choral Society is the only remaining founding choir of the Leith Hill Musical Festival and has taken part in every LHMF since it was founded in 1905, with celebrated local composer Ralph Vaughan Williams as the festival's original Music Director, a role he maintained for over 50 years.

In more recent years popular BBC broadcaster and ex-Kings Singer Brian Kay held the post of Festival Conductor before handing over in 2016 to the current post-holder Jonathan Willcocks.
